Sharon NELSON
Sharon Nelson has long been an active and dedicated figure in her community, currently serving as the 1st Vice President of the Jamaica Association of Montreal. Since joining the association in 2015, she has taken on various leadership roles, including Secretary of the Board, Media and Social Media Representative, and Director of Programs & Services, showcasing her unwavering commitment to community service.
With nearly 30 years of professional experience, Sharon works as the Assistant Director for the Executive MBA Program at the John Molson School of Business (Concordia University), where she has helped shape future leaders while pursuing her own academic achievements. Sharon holds two Bachelor’s degrees from Concordia University in Biology (1997) and Civil Engineering (2010), as well as a Master’s degree in Integrated Water Resource Management from McGill University (2018).
Sharon’s dedication has not gone unnoticed. In 2024, she was recognized by CBC as one of Montreal’s Black Changemakers and received the prestigious King Charles III Coronation Medal from Member of Parliament Anthony Housefather. In September 2024, she was honored with the Golden Heart Award from the West Island Black Community Association, one of its highest accolades, in memory of Egbert Gaye, founder of the Community Contact newspaper.
Sharon Nelson is running for School Commissioner with Team Joe Ortona, bringing her community-minded leadership, passion for education, and advocacy for inclusivity to the vibrant community of NDG. She is committed to fostering stronger connections between the EMSB and the local community, empowering parents, and supporting students to achieve their full potential.
