Pietro Mercuri is a proud resident of Rivière-des-Prairies–Pointe-aux-Trembles, where he lives with his wife and two daughters. his passion for education has deep roots, and he has dedicated himself to serving his community for many years. After earning his bachelor’s degree in education from McGill University in 1997, he taught English as a Second Language in French elementary schools and later applied his skills in the corporate world, providing training and developing onboarding practices.

His involvement with education deepened when his daughters began school. He actively served on the Governing Board of Michelangelo International Elementary School for ten years, where he held roles as Parent Delegate to the EMSB Parents’ Committee, Chairman of the Governing Board, and Parent Commissioner. He had the honor of serving as your elected School Commissioner for the past four years.

Throughout his time as School Commissioner, he supported a wide range of school initiatives—from enhancing French programs and sports activities to organizing community outreach and fundraising events, all with the goal of ensuring that our children thrive in a safe and nurturing environment.

He is also deeply committed to social causes. He proudly supports the annual Friends4Cause Golf Tournament, which benefits the most vulnerable in our society, including special needs students in the EMSB adult sector. He is a founding member of the east-end chapter of the Lions Club, dedicated to supporting people with diabetes, cancer, and visual impairments, as well as students with special needs.

As part of Team Joe Ortona, he is committed to defending our community’s right to manage our educational institutions, which is why he fully supports the EMSB’s court challenges against Bill 40, Bill 21, and Bill 96. He even sponsored the council resolution that initiated the challenge against Bill 96 in 2022.

If re-elected, he will continue to fight for our schools, advocate for student success, and protect the rights of the anglophone community.
